Ghosts, zombies, vampires, are all excellent themes to play around with. All you need is a projector, laptop and some space to project on. Putting a cloth on windows or doorways and projecting on them can be very effective. You can even use large TV screens in your house to play some scary content.
Step 1: Find a place or Many Spots to Project the video
Start by finding the best place to project your video. Projecting on the entire house can be the best. But even if you can’t manage large scale projections. You can set up many projectors with DVD/USB players. Covering many windows and doorways will make your guests feel immersed in spooky content. Think of creative places you can put the projections. Try not to keep them in direct view, but in corners and niches, which surprise people. Think of hidden corners of the room, with dark light and bright sudden projections.
Step 2: Get visual content to play on loop
Many websites offer Halloween themed video loops. Lots of scray ghosts, strange creatures, skeletons and so much more. You can use the same content to either map onto your house. Or use it to cover windows and doorways. Mix some 3D mapping video loops, with your Halloween, themed content and you have yourself a full show. Once you get yourself a bunch of clips, you need to use a video editing software. Many free and easy to use video editing tools are available. Make a nice timeline with all the clips in the right order.

Leave some blank spaces in between, you know you want to surprise the audience. The best way is to go black and then bring the visual back on. Add a variety of content so your show does not get monotonous or predictable. Mix up some skeletons with zombies and crazy people you got yourself a Halloween party!
Step 3: Setup – the most exciting part
Think and plant your projector where it will be most exciting for your guests. Keep in mind the element of surprise. All you need is a Laptop, Projector, and a mapping software. If you are covering windows and doorways you may not need a mapping tool. You can try to adjust the lens/distance of the projector to make it fit.

For projection mapping, you can use a free tool like VPT to wrap the image on your surface. Now all you need to do is connect your projector to your laptop and play the video on loop. There are so many tools out there that allow you to do projection mapping. Some are free and some are not.
Step 4: Wait for the evening
Remember, the element of surprise is the best part about using video as Halloween decor. Halloween projection mapping will be most effective when the sun goes down. Keep your projectors on black, wait for people to come near your house, then play the projection. I hope, you have fun decorating your house with some cool video projections.
